AVON YOUTH LEAGUE U’15 DIV 3

FRY CLUB COLTS  3

BROMLEY HEATH 1

For the first time since our days as U11s in the Hanham Minor League, we had been chosen to host the Evening Post Star Match. Unfortunately we were missing 3 of our regular players, goalkeeper Craig Francis, James Hurrell Smith and Mo Bouaziz but thanks to the help of Rob Stone, the U14s allowed us to use 2 of their players to ensure our squad remained strong.

We hadn’t played Bromley before but they had an identical league record to date so we knew it could be a close game. We started very strong though as the opening exchanges gave us good chances. Both Brad Monelle and Charlie Frampton were causing problems for the Bromley defence and it was from a good ball forward to Charlie down the left that we opened the scoring from a great pull back to Craig Andrews who fired into the empty net to put us deservedly 1-0 up. However further chances came and went with the Bromley Keeper called into action on many other occasions. By now Oli Randall and Craig Andrews were well on top in Midfield being very well supported behind them by Michael Payne and sweeper Kyle Curtis. James Boulton, deputising in goal, was rarely troubled but we just couldn’t take advantage of our possession and in all we had 9 good opportunities to score but went into half time just 1-0 up.

We started the second half still on top as Bromley struggled to find any form. Unfortunately an unsavory incident occurred between Danny McCarthy and a Bromley forward which led to the referee dismissing the pair putting both teams down to 10 men. However, this had no effect on our attack as Brad Monelle soon put us well on top by scoring our second goal with a well taken shot. Bromley hit back and from 25 yards a shot went in off the bar to pull them back 2-1. However, this had little effect on our confidence as we continued to push forward and we eventually got our rewards when a great move and final ball into Craig Andrews was finished off in style with a great volley into the net off the post to put the game beyond Bromley.

A brilliant team display and hard work was justified by our win with every player doing their jobs. Our wide men today Jordan Knight and Nathan Dawson played their part in supporting our attack and defence and both Michael Payne and James Boulton in goal made important tackles and saves when needed. However, our stand in sweeper Kyle Curtis had his best game this season always being in the right place at the right time to earn himself our Man of the match award.
